Invisalign can resolve a number of orthodontic issues, including gaps between the teeth.

If you have an orthodontic issue that you would like resolved but would prefer a more discreet option than traditional metal braces, Invisalign might be a suitable option for you. The treatment, which involves the use of clear plastic aligners, can be used to resolve a range of orthodontic concerns. Read on to find out when Invisalign is recommended and what the process involves…

What issues can Invisalign resolve?

While clear aligners are not suitable for complex orthodontic cases, they can be used to fix minor to mild issues, such as crowding, spacing, crossbites, open bites, underbites and overbites. They are often a good treatment for patients who would like to close gaps between the teeth, or who would like to achieve a generally straighter smile.

What does the treatment involve?

If you choose to go for Invisalign treatment, your treatment will begin with a consultation in which you will be given the opportunity to discuss your orthodontic concerns and aesthetic goals. Your orthodontist will take a digital scan of your mouth, which will be used to fabricate your aligners.

Once your aligners have been made, you will be issued with a series of custom-made, clear plastic trays. Each tray is slightly straighter than the previous tray and works to gradually shift the teeth into new positions over time. You will need to replace your tray every two weeks or so until you have achieved your desired results. The duration of your treatment will depend on a number of factors, including the severity of your orthodontic issue, as well as your particular goals. Although it varies, treatment typically takes between 12 and 14 months to achieve effective results.

Why consider Invisalign?

There are a number of benefits to choosing clear aligners. Because they are made from clear plastic, they are virtually invisible and very discreet. Invisalign aligners are also removable, which makes it easy to maintain good oral hygiene throughout the course of treatment. Aligners can be removed during mealtimes and for cleaning.

Invisalign aligners are custom-made with the help of 3-D scans, which means that they fit well and are very comfortable to wear. Although mild discomfort can be expected at the beginning of treatment, this usually subsides after a day or two.
