About Our Doctor

dr-peters.jpg Originally from Adelaide, long-time Melbourne resident Dr. David Peters completed his specialist qualifications in the United States.

Dr. Peters completed his three year orthodontic Masters degree and research thesis in the highly acclaimed orthodontic department at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, USA.

Dr. Peters has also completed the American National Board Exams, a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (with honours) and Clinical Licensure Exams, to enable private practice in the United States. Over the course of seven years in the USA, Dr. Peters won awards for both his outstanding research and clinical skills, as well as holding a postgraduate teaching fellowship at the University of North Carolina.

Prior to embarking on his specialist orthodontic career, Dr. Peters graduated first in his final year of dentistry at the University of Adelaide, and gained ten years of experience in general dentistry, including five years running his own practice. Dr. Peters has taught clinical orthodontics at both the Universities of Melbourne and Sydney, and maintains an active interest in the treatment of those with dentofacial deformities.

With a strong interest in community health, Dr. Peters has given his time in roles both here and abroad to assist underprivileged patients and indigenous communities, and to promote dental health awareness. Dr Peters is a proud participant in the ‘Give A Smile’ programme, providing pro bono orthodontic care to underprivileged children.

Dr. Peters is the current President of the local region of the Australian Dental Association, and in recent years has been secretary of the Australian Society of Orthodontists (Victorian Branch).

He maintains active membership in the following local and international organisations:

  • The American Association of Orthodontists
  • The World Federation of Orthodontists

When he is not creating beautiful smiles, Dr Peters plays the cello in several orchestras and spends time with his wife and daughter. In winter whenever he has the chance he can be found on the slopes teaching his daughter to ski.
